Planning to take NMDCAT in 2022, here is what you should know

Let’s start with the basic information about this test.

Eligibility Criteria for MDACT:

Two kinds of students can apply for MDCAT, Pakistani nationals and overseas Pakistanis. The eligibility criteria for both are somewhat different:

For Pakistani Nationals:

  • Domicile holders of any city of Punjab and the Federal capital city (Islamabad) can apply for open merit. Students who fall into the category of disabled students or students from underdeveloped districts (like the Cholistan) can apply for reserved seats.
  • Aspirants from other provinces like Gilgit Baltistan have to compete against the students of Punjab for open merit seats.

For oversea students:

  • Students who are the children of overseas Pakistanis or have dual nationality can apply if they have scored at least 550 marks in SAT / SAT II in the subjects Chemistry, Biology, Physics/ MCAT. Or they can take MCAT International and score an aggregate of 498/528 for admission to Pakistan’s medical and dental colleges.

Age Limit:

Following the Pakistan Medical Commission rule, there is no age restriction. Anyone of any age can apply.

Validity:

The validity of MDCAT is only one year. Next year, you have to retake it if you want to re-apply next year.

Test Pattern:

The test patterns used to be different two years ago than it is now. Earlier, the total score was 1100. But now, it is only 200—the nature of questions in multiple-choice questions (MCQ). The division of questions is among the four subjects you study in FSC pre-medical, namely Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English. The number of MCQs for each subject area:

  • Physics (40 MCQs)
  • Chemistry (60 MCQs)
  • Biology (80 MCQs)
  • English (20 MCQs)

Syllabus for each subject:

The questions are from four subjects, but not entire chapters are included. You are tested on the topics mentioned below from each subject.

Biology:

Cell Biology, Human Physiology, Ecosystem, Evolution, Genetics, Biological Molecule

Physics:

Measurement, Work, energy, motion and force, Energy and Power, Heat and thermodynamics, Oscillations, Current, Electrostatic, Electricity, Electromagnetic Induction, Electromagnetism, Electronics, Deformation of solids, Nuclear Physics, Modern physics.

Chemistry:

  • Physical Chemistry:

States of matter, Fundamental Concepts, Atomic structure, chemical energetics, chemical bonding, chemical energetics, Chemical equilibrium, Electrochemistry, Reaction Kinetics.

  • Inorganic Chemistry:

Groups, Periods, Elements, Transition elements, Compounds of Sulphur and Nitrogen.

  • Organic Chemistry:

Fundamental principles, alkyl halides, hydrocarbons, aldehydes and ketones, alcohols and phenols, amino acids, carboxylic acids, environmental chemistry, macromolecules.

English:
